The traditional craft from Barmer, Rajasthan, where a thin sheet of gold is fused with silver, is known as Bandhel work (or sometimes referred to locally as Bandel work). 
Process and Characteristics

Dual-Tone Technique: The key characteristic of Bandhel work is the creation of a distinctive dual-tone effect by permanently fusing gold onto a silver base.

Materials: Skilled karigars (artisans) typically use a thin sheet of 24-carat gold and set it on 92.5 sterling silver.

Wax Setting: A unique wax setting technique is employed to achieve this fusion. The specific details often remain a trade secret passed through generations of artisans.

Cultural Context: This work is a classic representation of Indian craftsmanship and is primarily used in creating traditional jewellery pieces, such as earrings and necklaces, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the region. 

This method creates beautiful, affordable jewelry with the look and feel of gold, while utilizing the more cost-effective silver as the base metal.
